Client Information

HPL Prototypes is a Coventry-based automotive engineering company specialising in bespoke and concept vehicle development. Operating from a restored Art Deco facility with deep roots in British automotive history, HPL blends traditional craftsmanship with advanced digital manufacturing techniques to deliver high-quality prototypes and low-volume production vehicles, and their portfolio includes collaborations with some really prestigious brands.

Project Scope

HPL Prototypes approached Fixfire® to design and install a comprehensive fire alarm system replacement that would meet stringent safety standards while preserving the architectural integrity of their facility.

The requirement:

  • A four-loop open protocol ADVPlus fire alarm panel serving approximately 200 detectors across offices and workshop areas
  • Multi-sensor detectors in dusty areas to minimise false alarms
  • Intrinsically safe equipment in paint spray booths, suitable for hazardous atmospheres
  • Self-check™ fire alarm sounders which when being tested, can hear whether they are sounding or not for fault reporting.

Challenges / USP's

One of the primary challenges was ensuring robust fire detection coverage without compromising the visual integrity of the workspace. To address this, Fixfire supplied and installed wireless (radio) fire detection devices in key areas, significantly reducing the need for surface-mounted cabling and ensuring a discreet presence. The system was carefully engineered for seamless integration into the operational layout of the facility.

Progress and Current Status

As of now, the installation is approximately 75% complete. The project has proceeded smoothly through the design, planning, and initial installation phases. Coordination with HPL Prototypes’ in-house team has been crucial to avoid disruption to their ongoing operations.

Next Steps

The upcoming project stages involve completing the remaining installation work, followed by thorough commissioning and final handover. This will include comprehensive testing, training for site personnel, and certification to ensure compliance with all relevant fire safety regulations.

Outcome

Upon completion, the new fire alarm system will significantly enhance the safety infrastructure at HPL Prototypes, combining advanced protection with minimal aesthetic intrusion—perfectly aligned with the client’s high standards and refined environment.
